East Heights Daily Devotional
Friday, February 27, 2009
When I began writing this week of devotions on finding balance on our journey, I thought it was going to be difficult to find enough things to write on. I was aware of a few “biggies” in my life, and was just hoping I could find enough to fill out the week. But—you guessed it!—I have a long list now! I am discovering that there are so many ways that my life is not in balance with God’s desires for my life. Sleeping and waking. Vegetables and meat. Exercise and rest. Details and creativity. Contemplation and action. Older daughter and younger daughter. Leader and follower. Serious and funny. Wilderness and oasis.
Amazingly enough, my list is not all that different from the list found in Ecclesiastes 3. There is indeed a time for everything. This is God’s plan for all of creation. As we walk the Lenten journey of the wilderness, I invite you to commit to finding a better balance in your life in whatever areas you most need it.
Prayer: Lord, this is a season of contemplation and reflection. Help me to walk this walk with you as my example, guide, and companion. Amen.
