Psalm 56: 16 – 23
16But I call out to God.
And the Lord saves me.
17 Evening, morning and noon
I groan and cry out.
And he hears my voice.
18 Even though many enemies are fighting against me,
he brings me safely back from the battle.
19 God sits on his throne forever.
He hears my prayers and makes my enemies suffer.
Selah
They never change their ways.
They don't have any respect for God.
20 My companion attacks his friends.
He breaks his promise.
21 His talk is as smooth as butter.
But he has war in his heart.
His words flow like olive oil.
But they are like swords ready for battle.
22 Turn your worries over to the Lord.
He will keep you going.
He will never let godly people fall.
23 God, you will bring sinners
down to the grave.
Murderers and liars
won't live out even half of their lives.
But I trust in you.
1 Peter 5:7
7 Turn all your worries over to him. He cares about you.
One of the great hymns of the faith is “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”. One of my favorite lines is: “O what Peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.”
God is truly our companion. God never expected us to carry all of our burdens. This is not a “pull yourself up by your bootstrap” religion. Jesus says, “This is too heavy for you. Let me take this and carry this for you.
Are there burdens, concerns, anxieties in your life today? Don’t carry them yourself. Give them to God. Do as Peter says: Cast ALL your anxiety on him, because he cares for you.
Prayer: Lord, you love us more than we can imagine. You want nothing but the best for us. Today, we give you our cares. You know what to do with them - where they will just crush us. Thank you Lord for who you are.
Prayer focus: People who are weighted down with the cares of life.
