REALKids devotions for Lent - Thursday, Fourth week of Lent

The Lord said to Moses, "...Now let me alone, so that my wrath may burn hot against them and I may consume them."  Exodus 32:9-10

Consuming something takes up all its energy.  It's good to "consume" the energy from food and use it to keep our bodies healthy and our minds sharp, but it's not good to be consumed with things that we forget what's really important.

Lucky for us, God's love can never run out.  Whenever we are worn out, we can ask God to refill our spirits with good things.  And God says, "Yes!  Take everything I have!"

Let's get moving!  Light a small candle (with a parent's help) for the next few nights.  Watch how the flame consumes the wax until there is none left.

REALKids devotions for Lent - Wednesday, Fourth week of Lent

The Lord upholds all who are falling, and raises up all who are bowed down.  Psalm 145:14

When something is raised, it becomes more helpful than it was before.  We can raise many things.  We raise our hands to answer a question in class; we raise funds for charity; we raise sad spirits with laughter; we even raise animals.

In the same way, we need to be raised so we can better serve others.  God raised Jesus above the grasp of sin and death so that he could serve as a model.  Let God raise you too, and you will share in Jesus' life.

Let's get moving!  As you rise out of bed in the morning, say a prayer that God will raise you higher today.

REALKids devotions for Lent - Tuesday, 4th Week of Lent

Measuring God's Gifts

Going on eastward with a cord in his hand, the man measured one thousand cubits, and then led me through the water... Again he measured one thousand, and... Again he measured one thousand...  Ezekiel 47:3-4

A "cubit" was an ancient unit of measurement that equaled the length of the forearm:  from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger.  With each new measure, Ezekiel was led farther into the river - until the water became so deep that he had to stop and turn back.  Ezekiel certainly had his hands full!

God filled that riverbank with plants, birds, fish - all kinds of good things.  And like that river, God fills us with good things, too.

Let's Get Moving!  Bake something according to its recipe today.  As you measure out each ingredient, talk about how it helps make the whole thing taste better.
