What's Happening this Week 3-30-2010

On March 21^st, our Summer Youth Ministry Intern Team interviewed four candidates for the position this Summer.  All four were amazing candidates and interviewed very well.  The Intern Team made their decision and our Summer Youth Ministry Intern is Abbie Smith.  She will begin May 16^th and be with us throughout the Summer until July 31^st.  Many thanks to Brooks Way, Lynn Rich, Alec Wilson, Rebecca Olson, Alec Campbell, Hallie Heard and Ella McNeely for your time and commitment to doing this VERY IMPORTANT job.

 

And, the High School Lock-In was a ton of Harry Potter FUN!!  Thank you to Sandra McKinney, Dawn Beall and Tim Stead, our adult sponsors.

 

All of our YOUTH MINISTRIES are going strong, I encourage you to be involved in absolutely everything you can be.  It is an unbelievable time together growing in faith!

The youth have the honor of leading the Sunrise Service on Easter Sunday.  We need each of you to bring at least 5 individual flowers with longer stems (daffodils, daisies) for our worship on Sunday morning.

What's Happening This Week 3-23-2010

Spring Fling:  Mission Madness was incredible.  Thank you to all who participated!    Josh Beall, Isabella Bond, Matthew Lee, Hallie Heard, Michael Lee, AJ Wilson, Alec Wilson, Sean Witt, Braden Lefler, Kyle Lefler, Sidney Smith, Alec Campbell, Joey Beeler, Alexandra Bond and Emily King gave of their time to be in ministry and mission.  And, we also had fun ice skating and at the movies. 

 

And, the Winter Jam Concert on Sunday night was AMAZING!!

Cost is $10 + a 2 liter of soda.  Please sign-up on my office door by this Wednesday.

 

Here’s the catch though--we will need some all-night sponsors to make this happen!  You can work in shifts, so you don’t have to stay up all night.  Let me know as soon as possible if you’d like to be in ministry with our youth in this way. Or, if you are a youth, ask your parents and/or other adults to help.  If we don’t have anyone, we will need to cancel for this year!

·     Joey Beeler’s grandmother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.  Prayers for healing and comfort.

·     Prayers for the friends and family of Yuna Choi and Regan Wheeler who died over Spring Break

·     Remember Hana Choi in your prayers as she continues to heal from her injuries and as she grieves the loss of her mother, brother and twin sister.

·     Sean and Devon Smith’s step-dad’s mother died.  Prayers as they deal with loss.

·     Continue to pray for the people of Chile and Haiti and other countries affected by natural and man-made disasters.

·     Allison and Ella McNeely’s dad is in the process of going back oversees and will be away from home preparing up until his deployment.

·     Leah McDarty’s dad is still overseas.  Prayers for safety.

·     Continue to remember Blair McGehee’s grandmother as she battles ovarian cancer.

The Pancake Breakfast was GREAT!!  Thank you to H.E. Hobble and Kent Calvert for all of their time and energy and to all of the YOUTH who helped!!  It was delicious!  And, lots of $$ was raised for Choir Tour 2010.

è Spring Break Events—we are partnering with Spring Fling (our children’s ministry event) for a week of Mission Madness.  Monday – Thursday of Spring Break, we will be in mission with them from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. each day.  Cost is $5 each day for lunch except for Tuesday (you will need to bring a sack lunch).  On Friday, we will meet here at the church at 9 a.m. for our own Mission Possible with Presbyterian Manor.  We will also have two evenings of FUN youth events on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Stay tuned for more details!

è Mountain T.O.P. Celebrations…

 

·        I missed this one last week, but Sean Witt, Ian Cullinan and Kyle Cullinan were in the State Swim Meet in Topeka.  They all did well including Ian’s 2^nd place finish in the 100 back and being part of the All-State Second Team.  Congratulations to all three of our guys!!

·        We had 12 children sponsored through World Vision!

·        Several 8^th graders had their interviews for IB and were accepted. 

·        Brianna Turner’s grandfather—tests for thyroid cancer came back negative.

What's Happening This Week 2-23-2010

The 30 Hour Famine was amazing!!  26 youth and 3 adults came together for our all-nighter where we learned about the effects of hunger around the world.  And, so far, we have raised $1700 (our most ever!).  Thank you to Sally Goodson and Scott Nelson for being a part of the Famine as sponsors.  Here are the youth who participated in the Famine…Sidney Smith, Makenzie Moore, Evan Holt, AJ Wilson, Madi Moore, Kristen Lumpkins, Ella McNeely, Allison McNeely, Lynn Rich, Isabella Bond, Joey Beeler, Blair McGehee, Kyle Lefler, Braden Lefler, Katie Hobble, Josh Beall, Rebecca OIson, Devon Smith, Alec Campbell, Dalton Melfi, Sam Oleson, Caroline Mattingly, Matthew Lee, Michael Lee, Brianna Turner and Emily McMinnville.  Annie Calvert and Alec Wilson could not participate Friday night, but still raised money and went without food.  You all are incredible!! 

 

We still have some children available to sponsor through World Vision. We will have a booth in the Coffee House on Wednesday  for you to pick your child!! For just $35 a month, YOU can change a child’s life.  And, if you did pick up a folder of a child and haven’t returned your envelope to me…if you could do that as soon as possible with your first payment, that would be wonderful!!
